Considering MS Visual Basic Programming Self-Study Commercial Computer Training Courses
It only makes sense to consider retraining courses which progress to commercially approved certifications. There's an endless list of minor schools offering minor 'in-house' certificates which aren't worth the paper they're printed on when you start your job-search. If your certification doesn't come from a big-hitter like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco, then you may discover it could have been a waste of time and effort - because no-one will recognise it.
Workshop days get touted as a big positive benefit by some trainers. After talking to most computer industry hopefuls that have tried them out, you'll begin to see a common thread - they are viewed as a waste of time mainly due to the following:
- All that travelling - multiple trips and sometimes hundreds of miles each time.
- Taking frequent time off work - many training providers only offer Mon-Fri class availability and group several days in a chunk. This isn't ideal for most people who work, and it's made more problematic when travel time is included.
- With just 20 days holiday per year, giving half of them to training events leaves very little time for holidays.
- In a situation where running costs are very high, a lot of training providers have to put on larger classes - not ideal (increasing the ratio of students to teachers).
- You may prefer to move at a pace that is different to the other class members. Sometimes this causes a lot of tension amongst the class.
- Take into account all of all the travel, fares, accommodation, food and parking and you could be in for a major shock. Students talk of increased costs of between several hundred and a couple of thousand pounds. Sit down and add it up - and understand where they're coming from.
- Don't risk the possibility of getting side-stepped for a possible promotion or salary hikes because of your studies.
- Asking questions around our class-mates can make us feel self-conscious. Surely, at some point, you've avoided asking a question just because you honestly thought you might seem thick?
- Working away from home - a lot of trainees need to live or work away for sections of the program. Events are therefore problematic to attend, but you've already coughed up the readies when you paid initially.
An altogether more elegant solution comes from viewing a videoed lesson - providing direct instruction whenever you'd like. If anything comes up, utilise the 24x7 Support (that we hope you'll insist on with any technical courses.) Keep in mind, if your PC is a laptop, you could study in breaks at work. You have the ability to repeat the learning modules as many times as you want to. And of course, you won't need to take notes because the class is available whenever you want it. Essentially: You save money, avoid hassle, don't waste time and completely avoid killing more trees.
There is an ever-increasing move to network based and internet based software now, as we see the world moving closer and closer towards the concept of Cloud computing. What this means is all your files are located remotely, so you're able to access them from any place you are. All the procedures are completed remotely - even the raw-processing. Your only requirement eventually is going to be an incredibly basic, simple 'terminal' that's plugged (or wirelessly-connected) into the Network.
